Yellow Rock
Yes, it was like this. Imagine about a square 3/4 mile of this stuff. That's what it's like. The hike to this place is pretty steep, but if you want to go and didn't buy the book I recommended, I'll tell you how to get there.

Wow how cool! Are these high water marks on the rock?

This is a nice zigzag through the frame Mark, well done!!

Rick,
go here for Tony Kuyper's explanation of why the colors are the way they are. He's not a geologist but he got the information from Steve Weaver who has a Ph.D. in it.

This is great, Mark!
For anyone who wants to understand the scale of this place - check out my image of Mark on these rocks:

If you'd like to know more about the geology involved, look up "liesegang banding" in Google.

Mark, this is cool. If it were mine, I would crop at the top to eliminate the shrub. I find it a little distracting.

Thanks, Tim, I did a perspective crop to get rid of something in the upper left. If I cropped out that bush it would push the top of that curve a little closer to the top than I'd like. I think I'd rather clone it out.

Mark,
Very cool image. The shape, color and textures of the rock are all interesting. Nice work!

Quite the interesting formation. It looks like your trip with Guy was very productive!
