How do you guys reduce an image to 48X48 pixels and 10kb? I tried preparing a self protrait for an avatar using the same method I use for posting an image in the galleries and I had to LOL! It was unrecognizable.

I think I cropped the full resolution image to a square, then sharpened it then down sized. I'm not claiming to know the best way. You just asked "how do you guys...."

You have to use save-for-web and let it strip away the color profile and all of the metadata. Otherwise you won't get to that small a file size.

Yeah, I tried reducing it then using the "save as" option from the file menu and I couldn't get it down to 10kb. I'll try "save for the web" . Thanks all.
