Have been absent for about 10 months or so due to delivery of baby girl - shes now 5 months and so I'm slowly getting the odd day a month to go out and do some photography.
On one said day i went to the Lea Valley Bittern hide and spent some cold hours there watching this particular Bittern. I was amazed at how camouflaged these guys are in the reeds and so tried to get shots of him in the reeds (which I did).
However, talk about the one that got away, he only went and caught a big Pike in front of me, came out of the reeds and...walked facing away from me! aarrgghh - shot of a lifetime so so close but no cigar. Also I had switched to MF for the reed shot and didn't have time to switch
If anyones interested I'll post a pic of it purely for interests sake.
Anyway, here's one of him in the open,
Cheers
Mark
ps keep up the great work - regularly look in even if I don't have time to post etc, and quality is still as high as ever...
Nice one. Saw my first ever Bittern there (I lived in nearby Enfield for a few years). Well done getting such a clear view - perhaps a touch more USM as suggested would improve it.
And what a cracking image to return with. I have never seen one of these birds let alone photographed them. This is an attractive shot with good detail in the bird and the water colour is good. The OOF foreground stems on the right are a minor distraction. Maybe clone them out if possible.

Nice capture, good composition. My only real nit, looks a little soft - perhaps a little more USM!

Welcome back, good Bittern image too, they don't often venture into the open.
Best wishes
