Ultra-Rare Northern Hemisphere Penguins (UPDATED)
Really BIG ultra-rare Northern Hemisphere penguins.

UPDATE: I thought I'd get a little pushback on that sky, but since I didn't, it kind of spoiled my minimalist comment on this post. This is actually a night shot, f2.8 for 30 seconds at 6400 iso. As anyone who's been to Moab lately knows, they're building a new bridge over the Colorado River up the road from Arches, so the illumination you see on the rocks is actually from the construction zone. The clouds picked up some of the same type of color, but I neutralized it somewhat to differentiate between Earth and sky.

They are HUGE! But do they sing and dance?
Fantastic shot TC! Print it LARGE!

Yep, that is a nice one. I love the light on the rocks with the darker sky. Great work.

Yet again, right time and right place.
Have you made a deal with the devil or something?!
Fine contrast and great storm clouds! Is this from your archives? Resembles a film scan to a certain degree.

Aside from the giant scary penguin part, this is a great shot. I love the light and clouds.

I see those penguins in my nightmares, Todd. Really cool photo of them. They're quite difficult little buggers to photograph but you've done as well as I've ever seen. That sky is outrageous!

Todd..great image...all that light from a construction zone???. I thought it was the last rays of sun hitting the rocks on a stormy evening  Beautiful dramatic clouds add a lot to image ...love the penguins too! Great work... :toast:

Amazing this is a night shot . What time of night was this Todd? Do you remember if you ahd moonlight also?
Posted by Todd Caudle on April 26, 2010 at 1:17 AM
No moonlight, Kurt. This was perhaps midnight, and if there had been any moon, clouds would've hidden it from view or affecting the scene.
