(I think you meant 400-1000mm as indicated on the website)
I love the 1 review:
"While touring Rio De Janeiro. My goal was to capture the beaches of Copacobana. Considering the poverty and theft in Rio, I decided it was not a good idea to walk through Rio with my d3x. This lens was incredible! From the rooftop and the bedroom of my penthouse suit, I was able to capture the true beauty of the people on the beach. This lens is a little heavy as im use to using my 50mm 1.4 prime. But it gets in really close."
haha
Wouldn't it be a LOT cheaper to buy a 600mm f/4 + 1.7x TC? Hmm... You'd have enough $$ leftover to buy a 500, 400, 300, 200....

"Now combine this with an APS-C sized digital SLR camera, and you're looking at approximately a 300-750mm f/2.8, or a 600-1500mm f/5.6 (with 2x teleconverter) lens. "
You can also rent it for about $1000 - presumably a DAY - or maybe an HOUR? .

Ahh, I forgot about the cropped sensor factor! How does one go about lugging this thing around??
At $29,0000 (plis $160 shipping) and an apparently wealthy buyer, I guess you also rent a donkey or hire a sherpa.
It should also come with a dedicated motorized dolly with ATV wheels - maybe like that beetlecam!
How about you and I and 50 other NPN friends all buy one - then we can each have it for one week per year, for 1/52nd share at $560. Cheaper than renting. LOL.

That guy handholding the Sigma is going to need a masseuse! (sp?)
Listen, if you're going to spend more than a new car on a lens, forget third party, just go for the real thing.
Hmmm, do you think the 2x TC would degrade the image at all? LOL! Mount it onto a 7D and you've got nearly a 4000mm 36-pound lens.
"Honey, would you be OK if I spent 120 grand on a lens?" The sound of rolling pins snapping over heads would be quite audible...

I won't be buying one though.
Ram - any sane person would shoot this with a tripod. Then again, most photographers seem to miss that sanity thing....

Ha ha… You are right Luke, this guy kinda sounds like a rich peeping tom.
- plus a month in Africa to use them all..

Hmmmm... I don't miss the sanity thing at all. At least that is what the elves tell me.
Eh...that's just marked up because it's a Leica and they can charge so much.
If it were a Canon it would be a lot less :
400mm, f/5.6 ~$1.2K
800mm, f/5.6 ~$12K
1200mm, f/5.6 ~$120K
1600mm, f/5.6 ??
If it followed the pattern, that's $1.2 million!
The little voices I hear all the time are ok - they tell me I NEED that new lens..
