Croppers dilemma
Willow Warbler
An example of why I hate reflections ! How do you crop this ?
Cut off half the reflection or do a vertical- include it all and have a small subject size. I hate 'em ! I think personally this was a lovely shot ruined by the reflection.

Views welcomed.

Hi John,

I would crop this pretty much as presented, with a little more canvas added at the bottom if you have it available. I wouldn't cut the reflection in half and if you go vertical it is heading towards a square crop which is not everyones cup of tea.

Cheers

Austin

Why the need to crop? Nowt wrong with having the subject small in frame, is there? So long as it's framed nicely, as this is.
Damn good picture as is if you ask me - wish it were mine

Hello John,
It looks good to me. May be, as Austin suggests, you have to give it a little more space on the bottomside if you have it. Or otherwise crop some from the topside so the bird has as much space on the top as his reflection has on the bottom, so you get a kind of panorama view picture.
This are just some thoughts about a good picture.
Hope it helps you.

Hi John

Like you I am not a big fan of reflections - the crop in your image is fine and I quite like it as the reflection is not a strong one and doesn't compete for your attention!

Its great as is, no need to crop IMHO, however if I were to crop it would merely be to bring the top down to just below your name. But a great shot John. :toast:

I'm with Simon on this one. It looks fine to me as it is.

John

As is for me too and the bonus of the reflection which in turn is an art form in its self.

Love it as is. Reflections are manna from heaven imho! I love the diagonal line created by the reflected tail, chest, beak and up towards top left by the line in the water. This is art man!

It is superb John - and so is the reflection - it just complements the bird. A lovely composition. The colours in the water are beautiful. :toast:

Thanks for the interest. It seems my hatred of reflections is in the minority !
As I said when the water surface is agitated by the bird actually bathing its not so bad as it breaks it up . I've lowered the shelf a bit in this hide so we shall see.
Cheers
