Audobon Ranch in Bolinas. You'll find Herons and Egrets on Bolinas Lagoon but they're not acclimated to people like the ones in So FL are.

I've photographed them at the Palo Alto Baylands.

Baylands has always been my go-to rookery in the Bay Area. Unfortunately (for whatever reason) the last few years have been very poor when it comes to Egrets and Herons nesting (several years ago the palm trees would be filled with Snowy and Great egrets - easy to photograph less than 10 feet away - the last few years not a single Egret nest). Seems to be more Night Heron's nesting there this year than last. I've hear rumors the egrets have moved a bit further north towards Redwood Shores ('Radio Road'), but based upon the times I've visited can't say I can confirm those rumors. Further south Vasona Lake has some Great Blue Herons nesting annually, but very high up in some trees that it makes photography tough.
