Welcome to the forum Dan and a very good image to start.
I like the tree stump that the Nuthatch is standing on and the background is nicely diffused. There is a good catchlight and eye contact.
I find the part of the tree stump bottom right corner a little distracting and might darken it down a touch and similarly the brighter areas in the background. Overall, on my screen, it looks ever so slightly too bright ( only slightly ), lets see what others see on their screens.
A great start and I'm looking forward to seeing more.
Thanks for your reply Austin, very much appreciated.
I've only been doing Nature & Wildlife Photograph since December 2009, and so far I'm pleased with my progress.
I aim to post my images on here for critique so that I may learn more and take better images in the long run.
Looking again I agree that toning down the lower right would help alot, and I'm keen to see if others think it's a little bright, if so then I may need to address my monitor
Hi Dan nice to meet you today too .
The image is a fine capture . However composition and backgrounds need to be worked on .( not in photoshop either .)The bird has been captured with seed and isn't always the most pleasing of looks .
The 2x convertor on Sig is not a great combination on the 70 200 and will make the image soft .
The perch isn't the best as Austin has suggested with the bottom right pulling the eye .Nice CL and DOF is fine .
Keep it up and look forward to seeing more...
Thanks for the comments, all taken on-board mate. Yes, the x2 isn't the best, I'm contemplating selling the 70-200mm, 1.4x TC and 2x TC to fund a 120-400mm or 150-500mm. Not sure what to do yet though as I do rallying photography, so the 70-200mm comes in very handy there.
I might try sticking to the 70-200mm + 1.4x TC as that does give good results and a little extra length, but still nowhere near enough.
I will keep trying though until something better can be bought

I am posting one of my latest captures of the Nuthatch, a popular bird found on Cannock Chase.
