The Weatherman
This 50 ft. tall sandstone monolith has been overseeing the Red Lake Valley in NE Arizona for eons now. Looks like it'll remain watchful for about that much further in the future.

I got the exact same short break in the clouds that Aleksei Saunders did at Pawnee Buttes on Saturday near sunset.
Shortly after, all hell broke loose with the weather...wind, rain & hail, all at the same time.

Great clouds indeed and just enough golden evening light to paint this beautiful formation. Nicely done John.

I like this a lot, John. The lighting on the rock really makes it stand out and you can't beat those clouds.

The soft focal light on the poodle rock surely sets it off against the great clouds. Nice!
Any problems with the roads after the rain?
Posted by John Mumaw on May 4, 2010 at 7:09 PM
Thanks!

The roads out there are mostly sand, so the rain actually made it easier to make a quick exit, Doug.

John- This is awesome. Beautiful light, beautiful sky, and a crazy sandstone formation! I'm wondering about placing a person in the scene for a sense of scale and awe... Hmm... (p.s. did you get my response to your email yesterday? )
