I have been approached by a potential buyer - they want a photo for their magazine cover - full spread - front and back - will be circulated in US only for 3 months with approx circulation 450,000.
How will I price it? I have no idea - please help with your expert advice
Arnab, have you considered picking up FotoQuote's software? It can be a big help establishing a starting point in licensing situations like this.
The (older) version I have lists a range of ~$1000-2100 just for a front cover with this approximate circulation. As is usually the case, you will probably have to make some adjustments to FQ's estimates based on your needs, the more specific usage (in this case front AND back) and the client itself.
Good luck, and definitely pick up a copy of FotoQuote if you can. If you land this license, at least we know you'll be able to afford it.
Definitely one of the best buys you can make Arnab. I'm on the wrong computer to check Max's older #'s with our current version, but those don't sound outside the realm.
Just remember that pricing is most times a negotiation, especially as the price goes up. But the value of the program is in providing you a starting point for your negotiations. We were asked to bid an industrial photo job last year, and my instinct said to use a particular #. Fotoquote helped us literally doubled that for the job. Priceless.
