These 5 week old Owlets are about ready to take flight, and I have only just discovered them; but I have had 2 productive days shooting them so far.
2 Owlets in the nest, the female (I think) is always close by, no sign of the other mate since I've been shooting them.
Canon 50D, 100-400L, manual focus, manual exposure, cropped in a little on most images.
Thanks guys for the comments. I got word that one of the Owlets has taken flight, and the other must be close behind, so I guess I got lucky to catch them in the nest when I did. This pair is in Boulder County, if any RMNP members want the location then send me an email, I don't want to publicly post the location.
Update: Both Owls have fledged now.
Great stuff, Nick. My favorite is #3 because of the interaction. I would be interested in knowing where they are, but my next possible day to go would be next week Wed and they'll be gone by then if one has already fledged, so maybe next year.
Nick, these are some of the cleanest Great Horned Owlet shots I think I have seen since normally they are tucked into the branches. Can I somehow twist your arm into emailing me the secret location?? If not, I understand, but worth a try. The light is beautiful, I like how you were able to use the tree as the frame. Very nice work. I haven't stopped over in the avian gallery yet tonight, but I sure hope you post a few over there.

#'s 1 & 3 are my favorites. The framing provided by the hollowed out tree in all of them is wonderful!
