I took our two oldest kiddos (6 & 8) on one of our favorite local hikes in Big Sur - Rocky Ridge Trail, Garrapata. Its a steep climb from the road below and a bit of a grind. It was the highest the younger one had gone. But the views from the top are spectacular and the kids loved it once there. This day (last Saturday) was crystal clear blue sky with just hints of left over fog rolling up over the hills. There was a light ocean breeze and the flowers were heavenly. The only downside was that grass has grown pretty high by now. But there are still plenty of flowers and color bursting through.

Here are a few more of the view from this great overlook point.

Thanks for sharing, Derek. This looks like a locale that I might
want to visit some day. The wildflowers are pretty and varied.

Very nice. Some years late spring that area has an impressive show of pink hued clarkia.

Thanks guys, its a nice location with a great view.

David, it would be great to see clarkia there as well. I've never seen that flower in the wild.

Quiet a view from up there Derek, browsed your links. Sounds like it's uphill both ways though.

Is that a Calif version of a 14'er dude? Kids are getting really big. I know that place so once again you are tweaking my memories! Here we are in mid-May and getting snow! some one forgot to tell Stan R. that!
