Getting some practice in before the end of the month to do more of these, and others. Taken on a spot now known affectionally as 'Puff'in point' for a few of us  Not quite a grab shot...

Light was harsh that afternoon with a 'coal black' sea as the backdrop. Just about held detail for the MKIII LOL, however Des, wished I had your light from the other day.

A striking shot but I think you were unlucky with the light.

The light is picking out the bird very well against the darker backdrop and the viewpoint works really well.
Might be worth trying to coax a little more light and detail from the water as the wing tips get a little lost against such a dark backdrop.

I agree with Justin's comments in the main, but the harsh light, although well handled, doesn't work for me.

Hi Steve

Works for me as presented - a well composed and striking image!

I'm in the Justin/Nigel camp as well.Good detail, composition and sharpness considering the harsh light though.

Nicely done young sir . The dark water and whites have been hadled extremely well. The rich blacks of the wing tips have caught the light superbly . All comes together for a very pleasing gannet BIF

Can't fault that Steve, but I think you should know that Des carries a bit of special light in a tin which he releases when other's are looking the other way.
