ID help
First, I apologize for the quality of this photo, I was moving from one site to another when this bird, which I have not seen before landed close to where I was, all I had time for was a couple of grab shots while I tried to get the camera which was on a tripod off my shoulder and onto the ground. I think it might be a warbler or possibly a female summer tanager? The photo was taken in central Illinois this week.

thanks for your help.

John, It's a tough ID situation since things are not in focus and much of the bird is obscured. However, I am going to agree with your ID, female Summer Tanager. My first instinct was tanager and as I look at more, I am more and more confident. The beak is too large for a warbler and their isn't really anything else but tanagers that fit the coloring. Nice find.

Fred,

You may be correct. It's been a long time since I've seen Summer Tanager and now that you mention Oriole, I like it. I don't have a field guide handy or else I would do some comparisons. I imagine we'll get some more opinions soon

Yup. After consulting a couple resources, I'm going to agree with Fred. Female Baltimore Oriole it is. My mistake. It's been a while since I have dealt with either of those birds in the field though I did have a couple nice male orioles yesterday.

For what it's worth I will agree. When are they going to develope the camera that shoots through the leaves. As Fred says the beak looks like it.
