There are some very interesting flowers currently blooming along Old 395 between Black Rock Springs Road and Aberdeen (Goodale creek rd.) Mornings this trip were very enjoyable as the winds were calm or very light. The flowers in the Foreground of the post are Giant Four o'clock (pink)and Phacelia (blue). The Phacelia at this little hillock with lava rocks were just about the best I've seen all spring. Olympus E-500 f/14 Iso 100 1/300.
Good report, Paul. I'm trying to remember the name of the dirt road to all the huge lupine near Aberdeen. It's just a hair south of the power lines in the burn area, I think it's Division Creek? I have not been there since the fires.
Jeffrey, I know Division Creek is the road where many lupine can be found. Cory Freeman pointed that area out to me a couple years back now. The only chance I had to shoot it back then was thwarted by some high winds. But, the place was covered with lupine all along the creek and road area.
Paul D, the flowers amongst the dark lava rock is an excellent find in that area. Looks very nice here.
Jefferey and Paul it is Division Creek (Left a text report on Harley's Wildflower thread) it is absolutely Lupine City up there from the power house almost to the Live Oak Grove. Paved to the Powerhouse and freshly graded dirt from there the road is very passable to the Sawmill Pass trail head for all vehicles unless your driving a Porsche. There are also Indian Paintbrush, Apricot Mallow and Thistle to name a few secondary players. Here is a sample looking South from above the trailhead across the Lupine.
