This Hawthorn Shield Bug Elasmostethus interstinctus (Linnaeus), my first this year, was sitting on a leaf of my Aesculus hippocastanum 'Laciniata' a rare form of horse chestnut which is situated near some hawthorn trees.

it's difficult to tell if the eye is pin sharp but like Ian says it does look as though it may not be. Nicely composed David, although the lighting does look a little harsh, not helped by the very pale underside of the shieldbug. Nice to see these around again, I've spotted a few in my garden.

a nice composition and loads of detail
I saw one last week whilst out walking the mutt, it was sunning its self on a leaf, I got a couple of shots with my trusty G9
