Yesterday, soon after a morning rain, this White-crowned Sparrow decided that a bath was in order, despite the drenching rainstorm he'd just been through, and he elected to bathe in my neighbor's lilac bush.
It was amazing how much water those lilac flowers hold and he enjoyed his bath for several minutes, seemingly in ecstasy. I suspect that this is not a terribly unusual behavior but it's the first time I've seen a bird bathing in a tree so I thought I'd share these three photos of what I observed.
Thanks Bill. No, my balding head doesn't like to get rained on. I was inside till it quit raining and the sun came out which got the birds very active so I took my gear outside to see if I could get lucky.
These are just beautiful. Would you please share some info on what equipment you used and the distance, etc. Also how can I post two or three photos at a time? It seems that I am limited to one per 24 hours. Please advise, Thanks

Thank you Joseph.
Canon 7D, 1/2500, f/8, ISO 640, 500mm f/4, 1.4 tc, tripod. I estimate that I was roughly 30 feet from the sparrow.
On most NPN forums you are limited to posting one image every 48 hours. However, here in Bird Photography, you can post up to three images in a sequence to illustrate a particular behavior etc. Simply post your first image and comment, then immediately "reply to this topic" and "browse" to upload each additional image. I'd suggest you read the forum guidelines to determine what kind of images are appropriate for the forum.
Hope this fully answers your questions.

Thank you, Ron. I have a 7D also used with a Sigma 120-400mm lens. I get some great photos but have not achieved the clarity and depth you have captured in this series. Thank you for the photos and the information. Joe

I have some photos of Western Tanagers doing exactly the same thing. Thanks for showing this!

I've seen this same behavior with other birds at times but can't think of any specifics at the moment.
Thank you Joseph.
