Hey folks,

Hope everyone's busy. I'm going to Anglesey at the weekend - somewhere I've never been before. Can anyone suggest some good locations, perhaps for Chough, Gannets etc. South Stack is one on the list too.

PM or email if you like.

Thank you,

Chris

Chris,

Cemlyn Bay is defiantly worth a visit for the terns. Otherwise south stack is good for Chough.

I found that the RSPB wardens at south stack were very helpful and suggested a number of locations most of which I didn't have time to visit.

Have fun.

I would go along with Rob here, South Stack is very good although it can be hard to get close to some of the species. Newborough Warren in the southwest of the island used to be good, but it is many years since I last went, and even then it was in late summer when migrating waders would have been about.

Have a great time.

Hi Chris, I was at Cemlyn and South Stack last weekend, lots of razor bills to be had if you walk almost to the bottom of the stairs to the lighthouse at south stack, take your fastest focusing lens, 300 is enough, they move very fast. About a dozen Choughs around the cliffs also, plus lots of LBJ's knocking about the heath land walking down to the lighthouse, linnets, stone chats and skylarks

Cemlyn is great for the terns, the wind was wrong for me so they were coming into their nests with fish in their beaks and the wind on their backs at about 600mph, almost impossible to shoot once I could distinguish them out of the sky :-)
I got some nice shots of them flying out to sea against the wind though, and if you have time take a boat trip to puffin island from Beamaris, always something to see, although its not ideal for photography if the boat is full.

cheers

There's a decent site for Black Guillemot on the north of the island but I can't remember the name I'm afraid. Years since I went.
