Hobby with its (soon to be) lunch
After seeing Davids Hobby feeding shot, was a bit loathe to post this, but it does show how small the insects they are catching are.

Was taken during a visit to Shapwick Heath NNR in Somerset, with 1D MK4 and 600 F4 + 1.4 TC tripod mounted. The birds kept flying straight at us, at ballistic speeds, was trying for the shot, but this was a pure fluke :)

Camera Model: Canon EOS-1D Mark IV

Aperture: f/5.6

Exposure Time: 0.0010 s (1/1000)

Exposure: Manual

Exposure Mode: Manual

White Balance: Auto

Flash Fired: No

Love the intense look in the eyes! Great timing and in some ways I prefer that it hasn't quite caught lunch yet! :toast:

Stunning to capture the moment from this PoV Ian :wavey:

Look out for them later in the year feeding on Brown Hawkers - lunch is nearly as big as they are

This is indeed some rare moment captured and as Andy says the pov is super.
As for being a fluke ...you gotta be in it to win it....

Hi Ian

Great capture, I did manage a few like this but mine were quite small in the frame and their lunch was even smaller. Yes they are so fast that even the Mk1V AF struggles when they are close - you did well.

Excellent capture Ian, I remember watching one of these doing this very thing last year on the broards, it's a fantastic sight to see.
