I did not check any stats, but have the impression we had a bit of a quiet week in the Fauna Gallery. Nevertheless some amazing images have been posted and the following deserve an honorable mention:
-'Ibex' by Mauro Pasquero is no doubt the coolest Ibex photo I have ever seen at NPN. This is a striking portrait of a very relaxed Ibex posing on a rock with an awe-inspiring backdrop of the snow covered French Alps.
- Chetan Rangaraj's 'Here Comes the Rain' is a wonderful portrait of a male leopard that does not like rain! Please do check the larger version to appreciate the raindrop streaks.
- Edwin Kats dropped by this week and showed us an image that has received a highly commended prize in a German competition. Check out 'The very small mammals are kind of underrepresented in the Fauna Gallery and therefore I was very pleased with Graham Brown's excellent image 'Brown bear at dawn' to see this excellent photo. Again, please view the larger version to see the flies better! On that note I would like to mention that it is great seeing so many people post larger (1200px) versions with their posts.
This week was honestly a neck and neck race between Edwin's winning bear image and another very artistic image. An image of an aquatic mammal species that has a very special connection with people; dolphins! Kory Lidstrom's 'Underwater Pals' is an image of two dolpins underwater, but the unique thing is that Kory shot this through the water surface from a boat. This effect combined with some masterful processing resulted in a true piece of art. Congrats on the Pick Kory!
The forum moderators are not eligible for the Weekly Picks and normally they will therefore also not be mentioned in these weekly reviews, but this week I cannot help myself and invite all to have a look at Brad Hill's incredible Puma photo 'What's New Pussy Cat?'. Not only for the image itself, but also because this image is proof that one does not need the most expensive and newest camera gear to make an incredible photo; Brad made this with a Point & Shoot!
