Grounded Pied
Pied Flycatcher
Unusually this one started feeding on the ground behind pool No 1
Funny how it looks out of context. Redstarts on the ground yes but not Pied Flys
D200 Sigma 100-300
ISO 640
125th@f8
Contrast down 1
EV-one stop 60% of frame.

John

Belter

FYI as well, the mealworm feeder system - (small plant pot trays on dowels drilled for rain drainage) - I use at Elan results in mealworms wriggling out of drainage holes, most of the pieds pefer to pick the fallen mealworms off the ground rather than feed directly from the feeder rim.

The bottom leaf in the middle is slightly distracting, IMO. An excellent portrait nonetheless.

John You keep throwing more and more great images into the mix and I am seriously beginning to regret looking at your posts. I cannot hope to compete so I think I'll give photography up.......well maybe not I will just have to keep trying. Great stuff. :toast:

a lovely portrait John. I don't think you should worry too much about it not being in a tree, it looks great as it is and at least it's on a branch

Thanks all,
Mike- A good way is to use those round dishes you stand pots in, and drill a couple of half inch holes in the bottom. I then hot melt glue some pieces of reptile vivaria ventilation screen.
lets all the water out and the meal worms can't get through. I use minis all the time too. Done it plenty of times on redstarts in the garden but too many public around here to do it on Pieds in the woodland.
Cheers

Excellent as ever! I find the slight haze/mush effect on the lower left hand side slightly distracting but that is a very minor observation on what is a lovely image :toast:

Great shot John :toast:

being really picky and in an ideal world that leaf just covering a bit of the foot would not be there.

But as we dont live in an ideal world

Lovely bird John, not one I've seen, think I may have tried, probably with little success to remove the green leaf from just under its foot, covering the branch,
