I thought I'd take a hike up the Longs Peak trail to get to some kind of overlook for sunrise. I've never done the trail before and did not realize what I was getting into. Well, 1-2 feet of fresh snow and two hours without snowshoes doesn't get you very far. The trail was snow packed up through about mile 1.5-2 ~ish. After sinking up to my chest in snow I discovered two things:
1- I need to wait till June.
2- My camera pack doesn't stay closed while hiking. It just likes to come open randomly.
The snow on the trees makes for a beautiful scene. Especially with the great blue skies and just a touch of clouds above Longs. Way to be out there in the elements. It paid off!
Thanks everyone! I just took a few shots from the scenic view on the side of Hwy 7 for the first post, but here's one from the trail. Well, the only one from the trail. I used my smaller point and shoot while hiking (Canon SD1100 IS) to take this 8 photo stitch. I was just curious how a point and shoot pano would come out. Nothing fancy, I was just playing around with this. Larger Version
I like the pano especailly the tiny bit of clouds for some reason really seem to set off the snow. Was hoping someone was out shooting the mountains from all the late snow storms
