Hey everyone,

I'm hoping you California guy may be able to give me a hand. Have any of you been out to the Redwoods, preferably the Del Norte area? If so, how are the Rhododendrons doing? I have some unexpected time off to make a road trip and was hoping to catch the blooms down there in the beginning of next week. Any help/info you guys can offer would be MUCH appreciated. Thanks everyone! :toast:

Last year I went first week in June and got glorious rhodies. I called a couple of days ago and spoke to a ranger and asked how the rhodies were coming compared to last year, and she said they are behind, just barely beginning to show. She suggested second week in June. Based on what she said, it is probably too early, but it wouldn't hurt to call and talk to a ranger.....

Thanks Tony. We had an incredibly early spring here in the Northwest, I hoping the same would be going on down there.

Thanks for the information, Tony. I'm planning on going
to the Redwoods when the Rhodedendrons come in.

Ryan, I traveled through the Redwoods two weeks ago and there was not even the hint of incipient blooms, much less color.

Anyone heard anything lately on how the Rhodies are progressing?

Just to answer my own question while I'm sitting in a motel in Crescent City, all the Rhododendrons still have a ways to go. I walked around Damnation Creek yesterday and saw maybe 3 or 4 trees that had started to get a tiny bit of color. Most still had green buds, some starting to spread open. Which was just as well since it was clear skies and no fog that morning. My guess would be that next weekend will be much better, peaking the two weekends after that.
