Arches NP: something borrowed, something new?
Got back last week from what will sadly be my last trip around the southwest for some time - my wife and I are moving to Sydney at the end of the month.

I've very much enjoyed the community here at RMNP and hope to stay in touch with you all - we may be back here in time...

So, a couple of images from the trip. Firstly, a shot many of you will be familiar with already (shameless, I know, but think of it as a spring flower conditions report ). This is from last Tuesday morning.

This second image was taken on a stormy afternoon in the Fiery Furnace area, conceived as a B&W (given the flat light). Green digital filters can do great things to red rock in Nik Silver Efex Pro.

Let me know if you think this works.

Nice work, Stephen. I never tire of that first view. The 2nd is unique and I really like it. Best of luck in your new digs.

#1 is very well captured with some terrific clouds! I really like it.
Not as fond of #2...perhaps an acquired taste?

Best of luck on your move to Australia! Just striking out or a move related to work?

Stephen... thank you for sharing the first one...It doesn't matter whether people have photographed this before or not.. your version is very beautiful. Good luck to you and your family on the move... hopefully you will share pictures with us... even if they are OT stuff... :toast:

Thanks everyone - guess the B&W is an acquired taste after all!

We're off to Oz as my wife's family all live there and it's time to spend some time in that part of the world. I'll certainly miss Colorado though (especially as summer fast approaches)...

Beautiful colors in the first and nice DOF. Great tones in the second making a beautiful B&W. Nice work Stephen.

Stephen, My daughter married an Aussie and lives in the Sydney area. She loves it and I love visiting there. We go at least once a year and I love Australia as well. Go out to Manly and shoot those cliffs over the Tasman Sea. That'll get your creative juices flowing. As for the first image, it might have taken by Tom Till. Good work and good luck.

Stephen, I love your first shot here. Yes, I've seen it before a few times but you have really done it well. What a great shot for the portfolio! We are certainly going to miss you. Make sure you stay on NPN and keep posting. I look forward to seeing you work with those amazing landscapes!

These are both outstanding. :toast: All the best as you relocate to Australia, and please don't forget to post lots of off topic shots from there for all of us to enjoy!

Excellent images Stephen. Best of luck with the move. I'll keep an eye out here and on Flickr for what you find to photograph in Australia. Cheers!
