In case you're wondering what the wildflower situation is in Moab, here's a link to give you an idea. I take no blame whatsoever if you call in to work sick and head this way, nor am I at fault if your significant other wakes up to find you missing and a note on the pillow that reads, "Moab bound. Back in a few days."

Nice shots! Looks like I was out there a week or two early. I did find lots of nice blooms in the Needles area on my last day out there this past Wednesday, so those may be a bit past peak now, but it looks like the Moab area is shaping up well. The claret cups, if you can find them, are especially good this year...Tom Till said they're about the best he's ever seen...might be past peak by now, though.

Hey Grant - I haven't seen a single claret cup bloom around here. A few prickly pear and fishhook cactus just starting to bloom but that's about it. I hope to find lots of great flowers next week while out-n-about.

Any one have Any thoughts on what the conditions may be over Memorial day. I am planning on joining the crowds and was hoping for a silver lining.

Thanks

Excellent shots, Bret, especially liked the paintbrush and mariposa lily (I think that's what it was in the solo flower shot)

Thanks, everyone!

Randy: If I had to guess, I'd say the cactus will likely look good over Memorial Day but little else. Things are peaking now.

Thanks for the tease, Bret. That's a fine collection of photos you have there.

Bret, I'd heard rumors about the great C-cups (no comments from CAZ or Todd, please ) and spent the whole day traveling around the Needles area before finally finding some bigger ones along the road to Lavender Canyon. There's a huge one on the right side of the road a few miles up, but it only had a handful of flowers along the edges. Don't know if I was there pre-peak, post-peak, or if that one just won't fully bloom this year. But it would be spectacular if it did. I wound up finding a smaller one farther up the road that was in nearly full bloom with about 30 flowers.

Those shots are all really excellent, but the sego lilly is pure art!

Where exactly is Moab? And why would anyone go there? Great collection.
