Sweden Creek Falls
Like many others here, I had to get out Saturday morning for some waterfall action. One of my favorites is Sweden Creek, plus I wanted to huff on some azaleas! The pools were still a bit muddy, so I went for the more interesting foreground shown here.

Yes, the foreground approach is not featured often. This adds depth and ambiance to the photo.

Photo does seem a little dark on my monitor. What do you think, Bill?

I do like the contrast of the white and silky water against the dark under the falls.

Thanks for the smell previously and the sight now...

Thanks, Larry. After I posted this I noticed that the master file was not as dark, particularly in the shadows - most likely a result of compression when the file was converted to a jpeg. I'll play with it some more and repost later.

Hey Bill, it WAS very dark outside Saturday morning! (looks fine on my monitor though) But if you saw my photo from Sunday NIGHT then you know that the amount of ambient light doesn't matter too much - that one was shot nearly an hour after sunset in the bottom of Boen Gulf canyon.

Isn't it funny now the county put up a brand new county road sign at Sweden Creek? I bet there was a census on the old house down there too (there was one on the fence post across the road).

Tim, I guess I didn't notice the new road sign - where was it? I didn't see any census forms at the old house place, but I didn't look around too much either. From everything I've heard about this year's census though, there were probably five or six! The one on the fence post was still there.

The master file for this one isn't really any lighter - just more detail in the shadows, which makes it look lighter. I think the master is probably fine, but a lot was lost in this web version.

It's hard to believe you took that shot in Boen Gulf so late. It's sure a beautiful place - one that I will have to visit sometime. I thought about going to Magnolia Falls Sunday after trying to get a wood duck shot at the Mill pond. While I was there, the zoo swans came right up next to where I was set up along the road and decided to take a nap. I'm sure everyone that drove up on the scene thought the swans had been hit because they were in their usual nap posture instead of having their necks up. I finally herded them back into the water to keep from causing a traffic jam...

Bill were you close enough to remove any of those green bands? Yea it was dark out Saturday morning (but your image looks fine on my monitor) I was at Compton falls and had a tough time with tree movement.

Tim I didn't realize that was David's cascade from Sunday night. I didn't recognize it with that much water. I saw it about a year ago but it didn't look so beautiful.

Matt, I was plenty close to remove those ugly bands - but I can just imagine what the fine would be for doing something like that. I really felt sorry for the swans as I watched them try to pull the bands off themselves. The material looked fairly thick - not something you could cut through with a pocket knife.

And the wood duck that never would cooperate... :frown:

Bill beautiful job on the waterfall, the foreground really makes the shot.

Photo looks great to me, Bill. Sweden Creek Falls is one of my favorite waterfalls, and one of the first waterfalls I went to when I got Tim's book. Too bad about all the ice storm damage around the falls though, hopefully some trees grow back to replace them.

those do look pretty thick and they look like plastic. You may need some tin snips or something larger to get them off. Can you imagine the beating you would get from that huge bird if you tried to hold it down and cut that band off? It may be worse than the fine.

Great work on the falls, Bill. I like your use of the foliage in the foreground

Hey Bill, the new road sign is right where the mailbox used to be - where you park at the gate and then walk down the old road to the house. It is one of those big blue signs that says PRIVATE ROAD #????.

Adobe sponsored those zoo swans and the bands are to allow some extra practice in using Photoshop to remove them.

Nice work, Bill, under less than ideal circumstances.

Very nicely done, looks like the water fall is hidden and gives a feeling of mystery to the shot, IMO. I like it.

Great take on the falls Bill. The tones look good to me. I was there back on May 1...it's tough to find a composition due to all the ice storm debris.
