Here are some Fauna Gallery standout postings from this last week. As always, choice for pick of the week comes down to a group of diverse finalists, any one of which is worthy of recognition!
Graham Brown gave us Fox Cubs which is a fantastic example of selective lighting and happens to be way up there on the cuteness scale!
Sandipan Dutta shares an ethereal landscape with a large bull elephant as a foreground compositional anchor! The subtle palette and soft layers help make Elephantscape #2 worth your time to study and appreciate.
If you find and click on the gallery of Neil Rossmiller you will discover he has been giving us a steady stream of super wildlife images from many corners of the planet. From this week’s postings one called Bear Sunrise really captured my attention for the rich tundra colors and beautiful morning backlighting of a large brown bear. It is also one of those images where you wonder about the comfort zone in working close to a large predator!
New NPN member Alexandre Deschaumes dramatically demonstrates he is not a newcomer to the world of cameras! Notice an almost, but not quite, monochromatic color palette, the magical atmosphere of a snow filled sky on a mountaintop, and the strong composition of Ibex In The Snow .
Close up views of big predators always draw some attention, but sometimes detail is truly stunning. I implore you to open the larger view to really appreciate this capture! Notice that even the attending insects have catchlights in their eyes. Good photography always communicates. In this posting color, subject and detail all combine for a visceral level of impact. Fauna “Pick of the Week” goes to Ajit Huilgol for Angry Lioness .
Thanks to all Fauna participants for posting their work and for their feedback in commenting on the work of others!
