Trip report to the upper falls:
1. Poison Ivy everywhere
2. Slick footing
3. Fogged glasses
4. Sweated through clothes
5. Feet got wet
6. Fell on rocks
7. Got filthy sliding over slippery spots
8. Sun came out just after I got there
9. Thank God no snakes seen or touched
10.Had great time!!!
Sounds like a pretty typical trip into the woods, except for the snake part. Although I have noticed something odd this spring - I've only see one snake, and that was this week down in the Ouachitas. I fully expect them to come out of the rocks and be just like most of the blooming things this spring - in great numbers. But it is nice so far to not have to deal with them just yet. There seems to be many more rocks around the base of this waterfall than most - I was noticing this in some fall photos I was looking through lately, and also in your photo here.
Sounds like a good day to me, and always a plus to come out of the woods with great image such as this. Nice job! I have more problems with the gnats than the snakes. It's hard to concentrate on a shot when swatting bugs. Looks like some waterfall weather coming our way!
Ha ha, sounds a lot like my Sunday, Jan...except I broke my glasses, bruised my arm somehow, got whacked in the face by a limb, fell a couple times too, found a few ticks crawling on me, but was unaffected by the poison ivy. I couldn't imagine anyone allergic to poison ivy being out in the woods this time of year - like you said it's everywhere! #10 is what's important though - having a great time. Great shot, Jan.
Jan,
LOVED the trip report. Mimics my recent attempt to reach the falls in the drainage just south of Keefe Falls. I did not relate the fact that I broke one of my trekking poles while I was busy saving my whole body from going over the side of a log and down onto rocks about 5 feet below me. Any scamble that I am involved in will surely have me falling at least once and blood pouring off me somewhere.
Sounds like the day Zack and I had on Monday. Only we saw 3 snakes and the sun didn't peek at us too much. If you are highly allergic to poison ivy like I apparently am, using the Tecnu wash helps out a lot. I know we hiked through tons of poison ivy on Monday, but i washed as soon as i got home, and have no rash so far.
Good job on the photo, and I love the trip report. If I were to do one, I would add ice storm damage everywhere, ticks (they're bad this year), spider webs sticking to my glasses, and breaking a car window 'cause I locked the keys inside.

I would second Jon's recommendation of Tecnu, I'm incredibly sensitive to poison ivy and that stuff has saved me many times!
