Are there places in Colorado (preferably near COS) where I can drive through a forest road.. something similar to the attached picture?

I am tired of looking at the forests from a distance driving on an HWY.

Thanks for the help.

Rampart Range Road runs north and south along the front range from the COS area up to western Douglas county and should give you a taste of that sort of thing. If you are really interested in trails here in CO, I suggest picking up the "Guide to Colorado Backroads & 4 Wheel Drive Trails Vol. 1 and 2. It doesn't cover every road, but its a start.

There are probably literally hundreds of roads like that, Paul's book suggestion is a good one. Last Dollar Road near Telluride is very similar to the photo you posted, going through aspen forests.

Southern Colorado is full of trails like this, the guides that Paul suggested is a great resource for them. If you want to find even more of them, travel north to Wyoming. Just the Snowy Mountain Range has 1100 miles of these trails varying from deep forest to tree-line.

I would also recommend Old Stagecoach road, Gold Camp Road, Mount Herman (watch out for teenagers shooting everything in sight). All are very close to Colorado Springs.

In a broader sense, there are many, many roads like this in southern Colorado.
