Last Night at Pawnee
I went looking for some clouds yesterday and found these up near Pawnee Grassland. I was trying to get lightning but no success except for one small zap in this one...hard to see. Right after I took this shot, the skies opened up and I drove home in some of the worst lightning I've ever seen.

Jack, great shot, I like the mood. Also saw lots of lightning last night and hail and was glad I wasn't at Pawnee!

This is gorgeous! I need to get out and shoot some of these storms. I might bump up the temp in the white balance a little, as it's look a bit too blue to me. Also, I'm not sure if you intentionally darkened the corners or if that's vignetting, but I'm might lighten that up a little. The effect keeps the viewer in the frame, but for my tastes it's too strong.

Very nice! I love the colors and cloud patterns. You're right, the lightning is hard to see though I did find it on the left.

That's impressive! I agree with Grant about the blues, but this is still a wonderful image.

Very dramatic scene Jack, I like the contrast between dark skies and sunlit grasses. Great capture!.

I agree with Nick: very dramatic! The blues really don't bother me.

I like the contast between the grasses and the sky. It looks great as is but would be interesting to see the temp bump a little as suggested by Grant.

Nice shot anyway you look at it. Very Dramatic.

Nice job jack, I really like the motion blur in the grasses.

Great clouds and I love that light - good capture.

jack, the drama inthis is fantastic! I love the color of the grasses and the blues in the sky are amazing! I like the dark feel of it....not sure about bumping up the corners, but I am not a landscape guy. I would have to see them side by side. Grant knows a whole lot more than I do about it, so would like to see a comparison...just wondering if it would change the mood too much.

Wow, what great color. I too am going to get some lightning shots this year. Been a few years since I really tried and the results are just amazing when you get a good storm.

With the sunlit field and the foreboding clouds in the same frame, wow! Definitely a keeper, and I agree though the clouds could use some warming up.

I would assume the blue tone of the clouds is intentional, and in that case I think they look pretty cool. Pretty badass, in fact. They appear to have a bit of hdr mood to them. So, you went out to shoot lightning, and when it finally showed up, you left? What a poseur! You should've stood out in that field with a tripod (metal preferably) and gotten some shots off. Change of underwear not included.

Outstanding light! :toast:

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I have to try to re-work the color but there seems to be some sort of vignette that I cant get rid of and it looks worse if I try to bring gray into the clouds. Todd, I always keep a change of underwear along with my raingear...lol. Not an HDR image or blend....the clouds were really moving fast and it was VERY windy. I'm going to keep trying to re-work this but actually the blue doesn't bother me a lot. It's not too far off from what they actually looked like.

DON'T TOUCH IT. You might improve it a bit, Jack, but why bother. This is a powerful and dramatic shot.

Fabulous image Jack! I might brighten the top right corner a tad so it doesn't pull the eye and maybe drop the saturation a tad but this is great! I love the drama in the clouds and the contrast with the grass!

Great mixture of warm and cool. Nice image.
