A Female Wheatear from last week, took from the car leaning on my beanie,a first for me,it went quite dull and showery but managed to grab a few shots.Really should have put the ISO up and tried it out but just spotted it and had to act quick

Canon 1DMK4,Canon 500f4L + 1.4 convertor,ISO 400,f6.3,1/400

Best to keep the ISO as low as possible and this is about right IMHO, Very nice image with a complimentary background

Lovely sharp image, and what I think is a very nice background colour too!

The perch, although a bit heavy (and not much you can do about what they choose to land on of course!) is quite interesting in itself, and almost looks frosty with the lichen.

Very nice indeed! :toast:

Very nice (oops, I used that word again), Karen. The background suits the subject very well.

Hi Karen,

An outstanding background that compliments the colours of a gorgeous bird.

The image is really sharp and I agree with previous replies that ISO400 was good enough to capture this.

Not much you could have done about the perch.....that's where it landed.

Nearest I've got to these is about 30 metres on Alderney :frown:

Great stuff :toast: :toast:

One of your best Karen. Excellent stuff.

BKGR is perfect and complimentary in tones to the subject.

Cheers

Top notch image Karin, Background is really nice and complements the colours in the bird.
The bird is nice and sharp and its all well exposed. I Like the perch too..
I have taken some pics at ISO800 and ISO1000 on the 1D4 and have been really pleased with the results, so i wouldnt be to afraid of pushing the ISO to those limits if i really had to , to get the shot you wanted. but otherwise i have been sticking to between 200 and 400.
would love this in my collection. great stuff

thanks for the feedback everyone, was a bit concerned the perch may be to heavy, but thought I may get away with it because it is not just a plain piece of wood.Cheers Mark for the advice about the ISO always try not to go above the 400 in fear of to much noise but must start trying it out more on this camera.

Reminds me of Tracy Emin's 'Bird on Pole' for some reason. Excellent.

Well I think that's a bit special karen. I like the perch, it has character and is totally in keeping with the bird's natural behaviour. I can't say I ever remember seeing one on a thin stick, I usually see them on posts, clods and rocks. I really can't see the point in upping the iso unless you really need to and obviously you didn't. It's a beauty.
