Fairyland Falls Sunburst + Repost.
Yesterday I was able to visit this waterfall with fellow PNWNPers Ned Fenimore and Kevin Hillegass. I know we have been seeing a lot of new photos from this area, but I thought I would post my take on the scene. This photo is clearly inspired by Marc Adamus, but I feel the image is different enough from his photo to stand on its own.

Nikon D80, Nikkor 12-24mm, 2.2 sec at f/22, ISO 400, polarizer.
NR using Lightroom 3b2 (which is quite impressive) other adjustments in PS CS4.

All comments/critiques are appreciated.

Looks good to me, Scott! I haven't even d/l mine yet.

It was worth breaking a boot for this.

FYI, I plan to be in the Gorge the next 2 weeks shooting flowers.

Kevin

PS Did anyone get a pic of that sunrise yesterday? I'm still regretting missing that!

This is really nice, Scott. I like the lead in with the stream up to the fall and the topper of sunlight. Colors looks perfect for Oregon Spring. Kind of curious why you were at ISO 400...

Excellent shot and presentation.

Kevin - Its pretty cool that you tore the sole off your boot during our morning at the falls. I think that shows how difficult it is to get into this area! Keep me posted about when you will be shooting in the gorge and maybe we can meet up again.
David - Thanks for the comment. I shot this at ISO 200 and 400. There was a slight breeze blowing here and there was too much movement in the ferns during the ~4-5 second exposures at ISO 200. Therefore I had to stick with the ISO 400 version.

I'll second that slight breeze. Just enough to be noticeable.

No word from Vasque yet about a repair. I was at REI yesterday planning my next boot.

I'll let you know about next week...

As nice as the scene is, this one doesn't really work for me. My eye is drawn first to the ferns in the FG then immediately to the sunburst and from there it doesn't really want to wander a whole lot to see the rest of the image. I think that you either need less emphasis on the ferns (maybe via a vertical drop down the middle) or to get rid of the sunburst in order to restore some movement throughout the image.

Awesome, one of the best I've seen of the iconic waterfall. I'm going to have to get down there. Unfortutately it won't be until August.

Bryan, thanks for the very detailed critique of this image. Here is a square crop which places more emphasis on the most important parts of the image, compared to the original. I'm interested to see which image everyone prefers.

Image number # 1 for me...both are great. I just returned from my first trip to Oregon and this spot is on my list for the return. :toast:
