Taken at the hide at Yarner Wood.
1D mk11 500mm tripod and 580ex flash
1/125 f6.3 ISO 200 exp comp -1 flash exp comp -1/3
Image taken in in portrait and cropped to landscape. This had to be done to get the flash to fire through the small hide opening.
What I am looking for is something that will allow me to attach the flash on the lens at any angle so that I can shoot trought the hide opening in landscape with the flash at right angle to the camera. If anyone use or knows of an attachment like this I would be very grateful to know where I can get one.
Regards
John Lee
PS It was nice to meet Graeme Lee at the hide the other day, did you have any luck.

Hi John
Would the Canon Canon SB-E1 Bracket do the job?
Often used by press/wedding photographers for putting a flashgun to the side rather than above the camera.
Thanks for the info it looks interesting would like to see it on the camera so will drive over to Mifsuds (only 6 miles away) and have a look

The image was taken today and the feeders were still in use, although they say they they are normally used till end of Feb. Light, if it is a sunny day is awful, against you nearly all the day, hence the need for the flash. Far better if it is a bright overcast day. Not a fantastic selection of birds at the moment, Blue Tit, Coal Tit and Great Tit are common, everything else is much rarer eg Nuthatch, Marsh Tit, Long Tailed Tit, Chaffinch, Great Spotted Woodpecker, did have a Sparrow Hawk land for a couple of seconds the other day but that was a one off and quite a lot of birders walking round looking for Lesser Spotted Woodpeckers. Have heard reports that there was quite a lot around at Stover Country Park the other day. Hope that helps.
Hi John, nice image BTW. Yeah, it was good to meet you. As far as any luck? Not at Yarner. You had prime position in the hide :o) LIke you say, the sun is terrible when fully out. The trick is to catch it right ant the end of the day, or first thing when it appears over that hill, although it maybe a bit bright early on. I have been looking for a flash bracket as well, so it's interesting to read this thread.
Probably off to Stover tomorrow for a couple of hours, so may bump into you if you're there. Leave a slot for me!!!

£124 from Mifsuds

Or use the camera cord and mount the flashgun on another tripod, or use the Speedlite ST-E2 remote transmitter to fire the flash.
cheers
