Flapwing-lapwing + extra
Lapwing
Had a great two hours in the stony field pool yesterday. I had loads of bathing lapwings when I had the original pool which the quarry filled in, but lost all but two in a computer problem. I thought I'd never get them there again. Yesterday one landed in the field and then flew straight to the pool . Great to watch 9 feet away bathing for nearly ten minutes Not bothered in the slightest and they can be really skittish. Just shows you don't need a big puddle to get big birds !
Usual set up.

Looks like she is having a bad feather day  Lapwings seem to like to bathe a lot. Many years ago I had a hide at a lapwing colony in a farm field. It took me ages to realise that off duty birds were spending lots of time in the farm pond behind me. You have therefore got a shot that I missed, and got it well at that.

I like your pool shots John,
they give wonderful alternation to flight shots and bird on a stick shots
so we have a rich choice for us bird enthusiasts.

Thanks for your interest.
Just come back- no lapwing today but about two dozen starlings and a Pied Waggy which was fun.

You know the thing I like about your images is that you get background and surroundings in just about all of them and yet it doesn't spoil them at all. It is very much what I think of as old-fashioned wildlife photography from a time before the accepted norm was a flawless Oof bg. It amazes me that you can get so many shots of birds doing the same thing but all looking different. I can't say I remember seeing a bathing lapwing shot before so this is a real treat.
