Who says Page, AZ, is the only place to shoot a horseshoe bend in a river? (Actually, I don't know of anyone who says that, but it seemed like a good opening line.) This is a stretch of the Dolores River in SW Colorado. Please forgive the noticeable chromatic aberration in the corners (esp. the LRC), a product of my Tokina 17mm. I'll go back and shoot this with a decent super-wide someday, provided I can ever afford a decent super-wide.
Cool shot. I'm not seeing much chrom. abb. but maybe that's just because of the small size. I only had a 16mm fisheye when I visited many years ago, so I too would like to get back and shoot this with my Nikon 14-24.
Pretty cool Todd. I like the sweep and the bright section of river. The CA from the Tokina should be straightforward to remove in Lightroom or a later version of ACR. It really isn't noticeable in the web presentation though.
Congrats on finding this one! Are you back in hiking/backpacking mode again?
Back in 1976, I kayaked the Slickrock to Bedrock stretch on the Dolores with some other kayakers and rafters and remember hiking to the top of a meander that was so narrow the total horizontal distance from the middle of the river on one side to the middle of the other side must have been about 100 yards max.. Some raft people continued hiking down the otherside and were picked up by our group as we floated downstream. It took about a half hour to do the float around the bend. I don't remember which day of the 3 day trip we came across it, but I'll bet chartering a small plane would find it easily.
Nice symmetry and detail - I can't see the C.A here - and I'm sure most of your viewers/customers won't either. What about a 20mm prime?

Could you have stitched a few verticals to include more of the left and right canyon edges?
Lots of similarities to the other horseshoe bend- the island on the right side of the bend, foreground rock edge, benches at the end of the point. You found a nice spot. Don's comment reminds me of the shortcut hike across a neck on the San Juan below Mexican Hat. The float to Bedrock does make a nice canoe trip.
