Canon 7D f/16, 1/125s, ISO 125,
10-20mm Sigma at 20mm with a 2 stop ND grad filter
Processed in LR and ColorEfex Pro for micro tonal contrast

I'm going through about 100 shots I took at Smith Rock in early May. I'll post the best 3-4 over the next few days, but I thought I would share one of the classic view from the path. I did a few HDR shots, and some from less typically photographed bends in the river. I can't wait to get back out there now that the skies are more cooperative than they were at Spring break.

C&C always welcome on these

Yes indeed a classic view. Every time I go out there I keep hoping that those dead trees will have rotted enough to fall over. As I recall, it's possible to get a little bit higher angle and avoid more of those snags by shooting from the fenceline at the top of the rim at the picnic area, rather than from the trail itself.

I'd like to see this with a little more sky at the top and cropping the bottom to eliminate the diagonal trail line. Beautiful clouds!

Thanks, Greg. I should have re-read that chapter of your book before heading over there :toast: (I read it last winter and keep forgetting to consult it for ideas before heading out). I took a few from above with the snags less intrusive and few from below the path. I'll take another look at those. I know in the ones I took from beneath the path, the perspective didn't show as much river. For there, I think I need to get up on a rock to catch the river.

Very nice composition of an Oregon Icon.

Thanks, Scott. I love that area and plan to visit every few months.

Greg: I went back through the shots I had initially rated lower and found one that is from a higher perspective. I think it is better:
