As far as landscapes go, I would suggest Summit County. For marmots and pikas, anywhere above treeline in Summit County.
In other words, you've got almost endless possibilities in that area. You're at the doorstep of the Gore and Tenmile Ranges, as well as western aspects of the Front Range above Keystone. You'll want to explore some of the areas above Breckenridge, like sunrise along the Boreas Pass road looking back to the west at the Tenmile Range, or you can explore some of the steep trails leading into the Eagles Nest Wilderness, like Booth Falls, Pitkin Lake, etc. Four-wheeling up around the Radical Hill area at sunset is good. I could go on and on, but really, you'll be in the middle of paradise, just leave early and return late.
Todd's last sentence says it all: paradise. When you are looking for a change of subject, check out some of the abandoned mid-1800's mining properties. Have fun.
