Anyone have any recommendations for best time to hit the Olympic Coast? Wanted to spend some time at Shi Shi and was wondering which of these months would be the best. (Or should I be considering different months all together?)

Thanks

Sept or Oct, with better weather expected (but not always granted) in Sept. I would avoid August as the coast tends to be pretty crowded, including Shi Shi.

Agree with Mark about September being best. You might also check tide tables and try for a date when the tide is receding (but not all the way out) at sunset.

Last year I went out to Point of the Arches in late May, and had a great experience. The weather was mild, the crowds faded by the time the magic hour began, and with the tide being low, we had a grand time meandering about the tide pools -- for two or three hours before magic hour.

For Shi Shi, if you start from Neah Bay, it's a pretty easy hike, though I do recommend gaiters for the mud. And check the mud... it can get pretty deep in places -- but there's usually a way around the worst of it.
