"I aint got no body " !
Crab Spider with male Orange Tip
Brett spent a couple of days up here last week and managed to get me away from the house which makes a change ! Found some interesting stuff including this. As Brett was photographing this the spider sudenly let go of the butterfly. When I looked at it the body was completely sucked dry Hence the title ! It had been caught on one of the spiders legs and was just hanging.

An amazing thing to see, John, but I don't think it has quite worked as a photograph. The spider does not stand out well from the flower, which means that the first thing you notice is the butterfly, the sharpness of which is variable. A shame, as it is a great piece of natural history.

Hi David.
Yes -I should have said its a natural history record shot not a photograph. The fact that the spider blends in is the whole point of its survival- else it wouldn't catch anything and would be gobbled up itself !

As somebody who doesn't like spiders at all, this picture has sent a shiver down my spine!

Maybe that's why I found it so engaging?

Anyway, very interesting, as you say!

Excellent behavioural image, as far as I'm concerned. Glad you posted it.
