5DII Sensor Cleaning

I thought I read somewhere that when it became necessary to manually clean the sensor on this camera that the old standard eclipse solution would damage the sensor/AA filter. Does anyone know if this is correct, and if so, is there a newer acceptable solution available?

Ken, thoughts about cleaning your sensor. Take a test shot of a white wall or sky to check for dust before cleaning. Then use the Giotto or Visible Dust air blower to blow dust off the sensor. After another test shot you will know how effective the blower worked.

If your sensor needs more work, check out the Visible Dust website for cleaning solutions and swabs.

Believe that you will find tutorials for sensor cleaning via a Google search. Let caution be your guide.

To answer your question, the newer Eclipse 2 cleaning solution is recommended for tin oxide coated sensors such as the 5DII uses. I use E2 in conjunction with PecPads and have had no problems.

Well John, I started scouring the web for places to buy a bottle of E2 and unless you wanted to buy a pricey kit (I just need the bottle), everyone seems to be out of stock. Copperhill says E2 has been discontinued because regular Eclipse has been found to be fine for all sensors. Then I found this

Thanks for the update, Ken!

I just mix a little bleach with 409 and pour that into my 5D2, attach a prime lens (not a zoom, they leak) and give it a good shake. That seems to work, I got no dust spots at all.

Come to think of it, I get no images either...

   :toast:

Yes, I'm kidding! But seriously, the Eclipse/E2 system or Dust-Aid Platinum have been the two that have worked with no damage, if we all stick with those we can breathe easy at night.

OK, I'll hush up and get back to work...

Paul,

LOL

Sounds better than just sticking everything in the dishwasher with some cascade (No Water Spots).

Mike

Yes and I am only kidding to.
