Hey all, thought some of you out there in the market for a ballhead may find my thoughts on the RRS BH-55 helpful...whether it's to confirm it's the head for you or confirm it isn't.

Really Right Stuff BH-55 review

Hope it makes for good reading for those interested

I'll go read the review but I've had a BH-55 for several years and I will tell anybody that will listen that it is GREAT, and that Really Right Stuff is too! I sometimes use it with a "Sidekick" to hold my Canon 1D Mark III and 500 and it's solid as a rock.

I too have used the BH 55 for a few years and love it. I use it with my standard stuff with a Canon pro body. i also use it with a pro body, 500 F4, TCs and flash on a Sidekick..Rock solid. I must say I never use the tension adjustment.

I use a BH55 too - extremely happy customer. Works just fine and is rock solid. A bit heavy may be but I can take it.

Love the BH-55 - I have used mine for several years now and have been VERY happy with it. Absolutely top notch engineering and design.

BH-55 solved ALL of my stability problems! along with the right size tripod. Color me a happy photog who will recommend Really Right Stuff to anybody and everybody who's interested in good equipment! Or who would like to save $$ over the long term by buying the RRS FIRST! Also use it with Wimberly Side Kick when I put tc's or extenders on the 300.

Richard, thanks for the review. I've been looking at purchasing a new ballhead since my tripod with an older BH-1 was stolen a few years ago. I've been "getting by" with a BH-3 but just ordered the BH-55. I look forward to getting it!

appreciated the review and comments. may be overkill for me. I mostly use a canon 50d with my heaviest lens being 100-400 used much less often than my 70-200 5.6 which is my go to lens. would anyone know what the next size down would be from RRS and if it is a good investment like the BH-55. thanks for considering the question!

They offer a BH-40 which might fit the bill: it's lighter, more compact and cheaper but just as sturdy for the smaller lenses and bodies
