Blue Tit in pool
One from the other day. The Blue Tits have now started bathing in the pool along with the Goldfinches. I haven't managed yet to get a shot of the GFs. Usually they decide to bathe when I'm not near the camera.

Most of the pool shots are taken from my dining room with the French doors open. Probably about 12ft or so from the pool. I did manage some shots yesterday actually sitting in the open in the garden so I think the birds are getting used to me. Unfortunately when the sun is on the pool there are too many highlights so really need to photograph early morning or late afternoon, hence the ISO of 1000.

C & C welcome as always. Thanks again folks for the comments on my other pool shots.

Hi Maggie
For me the bird is a little small in the frame but I assume you have wanted to keep the reflection in. That's the problem with reflections - it means your subject size will be half what it should be so something is lost. The bird itself in this case does not look real sharp.
Cheers
John

can understand the dilema in this with the reflection, but keeping it leaves the bird small, the bird looks a tad dark to me and maybe could be a little sharper

Agree with the comments thus far Maggie, that said, I haven't attempted any pool shots like yours yet! I am in no doubt they are tricky, but as Phil M has pointed out, I am sure you will soon be producing some wonderful images once the teething problems have been overcome. Keep 'em coming!!

If you want a full reflection shot Maggs try flipping the camera and shooting portrait from a wee bit closer - wait for a slight head-turn towards you, compositionally this negates the need for quite so much 'looking room' for the subject.

Nits covered....................

I see what you mean about reflections John.
Fran - teething problems. At this rate I will have no teeth left
Will try your suggestion of portrait Andy.
Thanks everyone for your comments.
