They're back for the Summer down our way. I thought I'd give the long lens a go instead of my usual 150mm Macro.

Canon 7d, 500mm f4 IS, 1.4x, 1/1250th, f8, iso1000, cropped.

Hi Rob,

a nice detailed shot well exposed with a stonking background :toast:

There is too much stick in the frame and its not the most attractive stick on the planet.

Rob
Detail etc on the subject spot on but a bit tight at the top for me and all the space at the bottom doesn't add to the image much.
Cheers

Stonking image of the dragonfly, but too high up the frame as others have already noted. Should be easy enough to trim a bit off the bottom and add a little more canvas at the top though.

Nits covered Rob.I know you've angled the camera to get a more detailed view of the head and side of the body but obviously that has thrown the far wing tips oof and I personally find that a little distracting. Can't have it all ways though.

Very nice image but not sure about the angle and comp.. Both just don't sit right for me on this occasion which is a shame as other aspects are very appealing. Good use of the longer lens.

Nits covered. A lovely image of a BBC.
If Ian thinks your perch is bad ask him to show you a picture of a BBC taken on a perch he set up last Saturday

For me the composition works well, I love portrait anyway but here you have pushed it just that bit more which for me looks great, and gives the image 'space',lovely detail,BG and colours, beautiful image   :wavey:
