Canon released a firmware update today... this link will get you there.

It fixes a video problem where the aperture tended to take on a mind of it's own when filming, you couldn't control it sometimes on certain lenses. There's also a wireless transmitter fix, and a fix to correct wrong metering showing in the LCD when in Manual mode.

Even if you don't shoot video it's worth it to update, that aperture bug might surface when trying to set the camera up in a hurry for all we know!

I did the update and it went in with no troubles.

Thanks for the update Paul.

I don't know much about Firmware updates and was wondering if I had to load all of the updates or just the most recent one(I just got a new 5D II).

It's easy! Here are the steps with Windows (unfortunately I don't own a Mac):

• First, download the file and extract the .fir file onto your pc somewhere, Desktop is fine
• Format your CF card in your camera
• Pop that formatted CF card into your PC's card reader or whatever you have that reads memory cards
• Drag the .fir file onto the root of the CF card. Don't put it in the DCIM folder for instance.
• ok, hit the Menu button on the 5D2, and wheel over to the utility menu that has "Firmware" as one of it's options. Select it and hit enter.
• the current version will display. If it says 2.0.7, you're already upgraded. If not, highlight the firmware and hit your select button to start the upgrade. I don't have my 5D2 in front of me right now, sorry!
• it'll ask you to confirm the upgrade. Click OK, and the STEP AWAY FROM THE CAMERA, lol! Seriously, don't hit any button or anything until that update is done.

When done, I'd reformat your CF Card again to get that firmware file off of there. Oh, make sure your battery is charged!

Thanks for the link, Paul. That manual LCD thing already bugged me - I use it all the time.

Cheers,
Andreas

I've updated the firmware to V2.0.7 but it really didn't fix the Live-View/Manual Lens issue. So I'm back to V1.2.4 now which works perfectly well.

I saw someone else say that on another site too! Good ol' Canon, never a dull moment.

Now I tried it once again with V2.0.7 and it worked. One thing I hate more than bugs is uncertainty. I guess I will just have to carry along both firmwares in the field and eventually switch to the older one when the new one starts to nag me.

I need to test mine and see what it's doing. Weird.

As I said, never a dull moment with them!
