Had a very exciting close encounter yesterday evening with four Wild Boar sows and 16 piglets next to my car! I was in a layby trying to suss out a pair of Redstarts I had seen in the area and was shocked to see these little guys come trotting out of the bracken. I was in a bit of a predicament as my camera was in the boot, so I had to climb into the back and drop the seats to get it and then scramble back into the front . I know, I know, too tight in the frame, not enough room at the bottom etc etc, but I thought I would share it anyway. I was lucky to get anything really as a minute later they crossed the road and disappeared into the bracken on the other side.
Great shot considering the circumstances!! first rule of photography... always have your camera on the passenger seat!! lol! Been in this situation (not with Wild Boar though) many times but 9/10 not got the shot cus im still rumaging in the boot trying to find the converter!!
How is when photographing wildlife there is always something in the way and on this occasion you have a blade of grass across one pig and a nettle across the other. still a great shot.
I actually think the nettle in front of the nose makes the image better. They seem to try and hide behind ridiculously small things like that. Its easy to underestimated just how difficult these creatures are to locate in the UK, let alone photograph.
Yes Phil, they were on the verge at this point which is higher than the road surface, I don't have a Ferrari or anything like that .
I agree with you Lewis, the nettle doesn't look intrusive as it really does look as if the pig is trying to hide behind it. Well done on getting a worthwhile shot under those circumstances.
a very nice image Lewis. I can't quite decide whether I'd prefer it with or without the foliage in front of the snouts, but I do like the composition and the strong eye contact.

Thanks all, quite a mixed response about the vegetation, I will keep it lurking in my files until I manage better.

Lewis.
