where's the water?

hi all,

just been wading through these images again....gosh i love photoshop
work so much i just had to do it all twice

so thought i'd post this to relieve the boredom. i'm experimenting when i get the chance, with different shutter speeds etc to give some sense of movement. the shutter speed here is 1/15th sec, no flash as the proximity tends to white the silvery scales out. with this ball of fish it was possible to swim through them time after time without them moving or getting worried, so plenty of time to experiment. comments welcome.

mark.

interesting. gut feeling is you need a bit more sharpness in the front fish. There is some way of having a slow shutter speed and a little burst of flash. Would that work? Either that or try 1/30th and more depth of field?? You may already know that these ideas wouldn't work...

I think Peter is thinking of second curtain sync, if that is possible with your underwater rig I think it would make a huge difference to this image, particularly if the flash output is kept very low so as not to blow the scales.

I think this is a very interesting image that shows a lot of potential for further experimentation, I certainly feel you are on the right lines in trying to show the sense of movement and numbers of fish involved here.

Hi Mark

Works for me - in addition to the movement I love the sense of depth to the shoal you have achieved with this image!
