OT: Ithaca Is Gorges
Ok, in this instant it's actually Watkins Glen but still just as "gorges" ;)

I've been gone from the forum for some time, life found a way to get in a way of what I want to do again... But summer is around the corner and I have some photography-centered trips planned so I will make myself more visible here.

Anyway, I just got back from a week in humid, hot and very bug infested Upstate NY (Western Adirondacks). It was more a family related trip but I did get away for a quick trip to the Finger Lakes and I decided to share a shot here. I also got to rent a tilt/shift lens and try it out on some waterfalls, now I can't stop dreaming about owning one .

And if you want to find out more about the place you can find it here: http://www.thelightwithinphotography.com/wordpress/

C&C always welcome :wavey:

This is an awesome scene!!

The composition here is outstanding and your choice of shutter speed is right on. My personal taste is for a less contrasty image, maybe brighten up the shadows and bring the highlights down a bit. Regardless, this really is beautiful.

The bottom third makes this image for me. I guess maybe I could deal with some humidity and pesky bugs to explore an area like this!

Very nice! Great color and detail.

"Gorges" indeed. The green color is striking and, while contrasty, the scene has a lot of detail. Wish I had a T/S or P/C lens too. Looks like a successful use of it here.

Very nice Aleks! Love the flowing water off the small drop in the bottom center.

Wow, what a beautiful place! You captured an essence here that really brings this place to the viewer. Well done!

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate your feedback. Paul, I actually wanted to keep the image with a little more contrast to convey the mood of the place. I did bring up some shadow detail in post processing but wanted to keep it true to how it felt being there.

Great shot, reminds me of Hocking Hills in Ohio.

I live there. =) WGSP is the nicest in the area, in my opinion. I really like your #2 shot in the blog. Cool perspective!

NIce image Aleks. I used to live 40 minutes from there and I know how difficult it is to shoot the Glen. Tough lighting conditions.

I think you have done really well with the contrast in lighting. I like the comp a lot, and the detail.

Ditto on the nice image. Can appreciate your desire to keep contrast up. Very nice composition and well chosen shutter speed for the flowing water.

My nit would be the highlights in the water where it looks to me like the sun hits the surface. Could that bright spot in the water be toned down,or is that some churning water flowing past the rock shelf?

I like the contrast, composition and every element in this beautiful scene...well done!
I have the same issue with the bright spot in the water. My eye is drawn right to it. I know it couldn't be helped, but if you could 'repair' that, I think it would be a huge asset.

Thanks guys for the tips. I'll work on it tonight (was busy rocking out to Tom Petty at Red Rocks last night  ) and see if the bright spot is fixable.

Oh, how I envy you!! There are definitely advantages to living where you do.

Beautiful Images! And, a very beautiful area.
I spent a lot of time in the late '60s working on the Cornell North Campus Dorm project back in my architecture days. I didn't like flying in to Ithaca during the winter but the rest of the year was great.
Excellent Work.
Thanks for sharing,
Dave
