HooDoos
A little bench under a ridge contained some interesting hoodoos. Evening light seemed a better time as the ridge blocked the early morning light and by the time the sun made it over, it created a harder/starker illumination.

Not sure about a bottom crop on this first one.

From below and opposite side. A little bit of green shows in the toadstool column and foreground rocks.

Taken the following morning maybe 30 minutes after the sun crested the rim above.

Last one. Kind of a moonscape environment.
iirc, the first two shots were taken with D90 and Nikon 18-105 w/ cpl. The morning shots with a Tokina 12-24 w/ cpl
Any C&C accepted on this series.

Nice work Doug! I especially like the first image. I really like the comp and clouds. Color is really nice, though have you considered a B&W?

Jeremy,
I did try a B&W with one of the other morning images since the light was starker.

There isn't a comp I don't like from this selection. I also like the pastels of the color versions. A few dust spots to remove in the skies, but that's a very minor nit.

Doug, these look like images from the moon or maybe something from an old Star Trek episode...especially the B&W. Very cool :toast:

I love those hoodoos that you do so well! (I think that's a play on a quote from "Blazing Saddles.")

Definitely likin' the first one the most.

Those are all excellent comps. Well done!

Nice! I like 1 and 4 the most. I think the B&W version could use a little darkening on the hoodoos. Not much, just a tad.

Great series, Doug. I'm really partial to #1 (the comp, lighting and sky all work for me) but the foreground seems to be a bit low in contrast. How bout a B&W rendition of this one?!

I also like the first one and agree with you that cropping an inch or so from the bottom would benefit the image.
However, it appears to be a bit heavy handed with the Shadow/Highlights slider. I think that a bit more contrast would be an asset here.

Here is a redo of #1. Cropped a little off the bottom. No levels adj. Midrange contrast +23. reduce highlights +2. Saturation +3. USM 500% 0.2radius 0threshold. Then resized to 720pix 72ppi for here.

The previous image post had USM of 200% 0.5r 2thr, iirc. Floris wrote elsewhere about using 500% 0.2r, so I tried it here.

Seemed to have rid the light sky halo around the hoodoos. Thanks John, regarding the shadow highlight heavy-handedness.

B&W conversion with added general and midrange contrast.

Glad I checked back in here. I like the repost much better, Doug.
Exactly the crop I had in mind.
B&W looks pretty good too, although I slightly favor the color version. Well done!
