This image begged BW conversion. It was as if a little spotlight was thrown onto this little white gem nestled in the prickly pear. This is on Eureka Valley road in the Joshua Tree forest. There are four species of Cactus mixed in among the Joshua Trees and will be in full bloom in a week possibly two. Beavertail, Prickly Pear, Strawberry hedgehog and Cholla.

Looks like picked up some great light down inbetween the brush!
Paul, the "spotlight" effect really does make the subject stand out. There's no doubt what the subject is in this image!
How were conditions on Saline Valley road? Were there many other flowers blooming on the flats besides cactus? This is an area I've been to many times over the years. The high elevation of the flats just before the road drops down into Saline Valley should delay the blooms---especially this year. I was very temped to take a side trip in there on my trip a couple of weeks ago. But I had just had the starter replaced in my 4x4 and it was still acting up; that would not be a good area for a break down. And I doubt if there is cell coverage in that area. Now that my truck seems to be starting reliably, I'm thinking of going back for a few days.
This is a great find and a great capture. for a brief second when I first saw this, I thought it was from a large format, soft focus lens... I like it.

Wonderful light. Almost like a studio setting. The comp works really well. Best Regards.

Thanks for any additional info.
