I've tried to make this as simply as possible whilst trying to retain a soft glow and remove distractions. I have removed two small blades of grass from the final composition in PS (better than cutting away habitat IMO). The shot was taken in storm light so that the sky comes off a tad darker. Critique and comments most welcome.
I really like the idea here Ian and I'm not averse to a bit of mush, but I think I'd prefer this image if the mush didn't extend quite so far so there was a clearer view of the cowslip. I still like it though - the blue sky and soft light are very nice.
Fraid I am with Andy A here.... for mush to work the subject really needs to be pin sharp and detailed...... here it is just a little bit diffuse.... that is personal taste mind you...

Plenty of mush!

But here's my take on mush - mush works best if the subject is tack sharp behind it - and this isn't, though you can probably soon remedy that in PS.
Nice idea
